Our U14 boys’ hockey team was crowned Tier 2 Regional Champions on Monday 4 March.

Following success at the county tournament in February, where our team achieved county champion status, they travelled to Ipswich on Monday 4 March for the Tier 2 regional tournament. Up against 10 other schools, the tournament was split into two pools of five teams.

The College team kicked off the tournament with a 2-0 victory in their first group match against Bedford Modern School, followed by a 1-0 win against Kimbolton, and another 2-0 win against Norwich School. These victories meant a draw was all the team needed to claim the top spot in their group, which they exceeded with a 1-0 win in their final group match against Southend High School for Boys.

Vying for a spot in the national finals, the team faced Hitchin Boys’ School in the semi-final, where a 0-0 result took the match to a shootout to determine the winner. With the College goalkeeper saving four of the opponents’ shots, and three goals being scored for the College side, the team triumphed and made it through to the final.

The final saw the College U14 boys up against The Stephen Perse School. In an evenly balanced match, the game ended in another 0-0 draw, resulting in another shootout for the College. With four goals scored for the College and several of the opponents’ shots saved, the College U14 boys were crowned U14 Tier 2 Regional Champions.

Assistant Director of Sport, Health, and Fitness and Coach to the U14 team, Nick Prowse, commented, “We are so proud of our U14 team for this superb victory. They played extremely well on the day and their results sheet, not conceding one goal throughout the tournament, is testament to their hard work and commitment. We look forward to representing the east in the national finals in Nottingham on Monday 18 March.”
