On Monday 12 May, our U13A girls’ cricket team stormed to victory at the county tournament held at Haileybury.

The team dominated the group stage, including a ten wicket win in one match. Ankhan A and Sophia V were in fine form with the bat, scoring freely and putting the opposition bowlers under pressure. Nyah C took four wickets in her first two overs of the day and Betsy G was accurate and economical in every game.

The final was against Berkhamsted, a very strong cricketing school. Bowling first,
they got off to a good start before Emmy P came on to claim three outstanding wickets in an over and change the momentum of the innings. They finished strong and ended with competitive score of 67 in their ten overs. The team would have to bat very well to achieve it. Sadly, they got off to a disastrous start losing three early wickets due to some excellent fast bowling from the Berkhamsted players.

It was at this stage that Libby Ho and Libby Hu came together at the crease and produced something exceptionally special. They played sensibly and ran well between the wickets to rebuild the innings, each unleashing some magnificent boundaries to get the team back in the match. They had put on 46 runs for the fourth wicket when Libby Hu was dismissed with just three runs to win with nine balls remaining. Millie C joined Libby Ho to win the game with seven balls to spare.

A quite incredible performance from all the girls to become County Champions.
