U12s Runners Up at District Football Championships

On Friday 1 March our U12 boys’ football team traveled to Saffron Walden County High School (SWCHS) for the district football competition.

12 teams from various local schools entered the competition, and were organised into two groups of six for the group stages of the competition. Our U12s played extremely well, winning four and drawing just one of their group stage matches meaning they topped their group and remained unbeaten.

Results for the group stage were as follows:

• vs St Nicholas School – Won 1-0
• vs St Mary’s – Won 1-0
• vs Birchwood School – Won 1-0
• vs SWCHS B – Drew 1-1
• vs Leventhorpe School – Won 1-0

Heading into the semi-final, our U12 team played the runners-up from the other group, SWCHS. Although the opposition took an early lead, our team came fighting back with two brilliant goals, securing their place in the final against The Bishop’s Stortford Boy’s High School (TBSHS).

The final started well with an early goal for the College, then equalised by TBSHS, then another goal put the College in front. With just 45 seconds left in the game, TBSHS equalised once again sending the match into extra time. A goal from TBSHS in the added-on period which our U12 team could not equalise saw an agonising loss for our boys, but earning them a well-deserved place as runners up in the tournament.
