On Tuesday 5 December, we were delighted to welcome Tom Hart as our first guest speaker for our 2023-2024 Ferguson Lecture Series.
Tom, part of the race engineering team at Red Bull Racing Formula 1 team, has worked with drivers such as Alex Albon and Max Verstappen. Tom shared his experience and knowledge of working within the world of Formula 1 with a packed audience in our Memorial Hall of over 300 guests.
During his talk, Tom covered topics including how Formula 1 has grown to become as popular as it is, and the technical hotbed that’s been created for new automotive technologies, moving it further away from being so reliant on sponsorship. The audience was fascinated as Tom discussed the incredibly busy schedules he and his team experienced during the season, making it from one race to another, as well as detailing his involvement in optimising the car’s performance once it’s on the track.
Thank you to Tom for a thoroughly enjoyable evening which had to switch venues due to demand; testament to the popularity of this subject. Tom gave wonderful in-depth answers and discussions to a round of questions asked by the audience about the nature of the sport, its future, and Red Bull’s involvement.
