A number of the medical students have been awarded the Douglas Knock Memorial Fund Award, a special prize awarded to selected Old Stortfordians who leave Bishop’s Stortford College to pursue a degree and training in medicine or a closely related field. Recipients of the award receive a £4000 bursary each year for a three-year period to support their studies.
This year three students are heading off to Oxbridge. Will C to study Classics at University of Cambridge, and Catherine M to study Philosophy and French and Carissa P to study Chemistry both at University of Oxford.
Several students are also going on to apprenticeships in areas as diverse as Law, Finance, Cyber Security and Social Media, including Lewis R who is taking up a Corporate Accountancy apprenticeship with local firm Price Bailey.
The College Head, Kathy Crewe-Read, said “I am extremely proud of the dedication and tenacity shown by our Upper Sixth. As the first cohort of students to sit A Level examinations since the pandemic began, their achievements today go beyond the grades they have received. The pride I feel in the way staff and students adapted to rise above the challenges placed in front of them – particularly in the first year of their A Level study – is immense.”
