Our U14 boys’ hockey team have been crowned county champions at the National Schools Tier 2 county finals tournament.

Held at Haileybury School on Tuesday 6 February 2024, five schools alongside our team participated in the tournament including Hockerill Anglo-European College, Watford Grammar School for Boys, Hitchin Boys’ School, Merchant Taylor’s School, and St Albans School.

The group stages saw our team begin the tournament well with a 4-0 victory against Hockerill Anglo-European College, followed by a narrow 0-1 defeat against Hitchin Boys’ School. Securing their place as runners-up in the group stage, our team then faced Merchant Taylor’s School in the semi-final. A close match, we clinched the victory with a goal scored in the second half winning the match 1-0 and progressing to the final.

Facing Hitchin Boys’ School in the final once again, whom we had lost to in the group stages, our U14 boys stepped up their game with the match ending in a 0-0 draw, leading to shuffles. With two shuffles scored for the College, and four from the opposition saved by our team goalkeeper, our boys emerged victorious and were crowned county champions.

The team will now represent Hertfordshire in the regional finals which take place in Ipswich on Monday 4 March 2024.

Director of Sport, Health, and Fitness, Evan Stewart, commented, “In a tournament which saw some fantastic hockey from all participating teams, I’m extremely proud of how well our boys played. Playing with skill and determination throughout the tournament, their victory is testament to their resilience and perseverance. We look forward to the regional finals in March.”
