On Monday 23 June, our U12A boys’ cricket team clinched the Hertfordshire County Cup in a nail-biting final against Watford Boys Grammar School, showcasing remarkable teamwork, and determination.

Winning the toss and opting to bat first, the College got off to a shaky start, losing an early wicket. However, a composed 43-run partnership between Cooper R-S and Edward C helped steady the innings. Facing a high-quality Watford bowling attack and a difficult batting wicket, the College lost wickets at regular intervals and found themselves in a precarious position at 62 for 5. A crucial 30-run partnership between Charlie C and Ollie V late in the innings ensured that the College batted through their allotted 20 overs, setting a competitive target of 93 runs.

Watford’s reply got off to a dramatic start with a wicket off the very first ball—an outstanding direct-hit run-out by wicket keeper Edward C—setting the tone for a tense and thrilling second innings. Under the astute captaincy of Josh G, the College bowlers maintained tight lines and applied sustained pressure on the Watford batsmen. With the match finely balanced, a turning point came when Watford attempted a risky second run to Charlie C, fielding on the cover boundary. His pinpoint direct hit produced a third run-out, swinging the momentum firmly in the College’s favour. All bowlers contributed effectively, but the standout performance came from Braedon M, who delivered an exceptional spell of 4 wickets for just 11 runs in his 4 overs.

It was a complete team performance, with excellent energy and sharp fielding throughout. Congratulations to all the players on a well-deserved victory and for bringing the County Cup to the College!
