Bishop’s Stortford Picture Book Award 2023 Shortlist Announced

Bishop’s Stortford College is pleased to announce the much-anticipated shortlist for the Bishop’s Stortford Picture Book Award 2023, part of the Bishop’s Stortford College Festival of Literature.

2023 will mark the 14th annual Festival of Literature since it began back in 2009, and will see a return to its traditional, in-person format this year with local schools being invited to celebrate and share enthusiasm for the spoken and written word from 30th January – 9th February 2023.

A very popular feature of the Festival of Literature, the Bishop’s Stortford Picture Book Award will see invited schools; Little Hadham Primary School, Ralph Sadlier School, Windhill Primary School, Summercroft Primary School, All Saints C of E Primary School, High Wych Primary School, Mandeville Primary School, Northgate Primary School and St Cedd’s School, cast votes for their favourite titles, with the winner announced at a ceremony on Wednesday 1st February. Previous Picture Book Award winners include, Ten Delicious Teachers by Ross Montgomery and Sarah Warburton, Pirates vs Monsters by David Crosby and Lee Cosgrove and This Is A Dog by Ross Collins.

Participating schools are urged to save the date of Wednesday 1st February which will see this year’s shortlisted authors and illustrators join us on-screen for the ceremony, as well as author and illustrator, Elys Dolan, who will announce the 2023 Bishop’s Stortford Picture Book Award winner.

The nominees for the 2023 Bishop’s Stortford Picture Book Award are;

  • Bodies Are Cool by Tyler Feder
  • Hom by Jeanne Willis and Paddy Donnelly
  • I am Not a Prince by Rachael Davis and Beatrix Hatcher
  • Leaves by Stephen Hogtun
  • Mum, Me and the Mulberry Tree by Tanya Rosie and Chuck Groenink
  • The Boy with Flowers in His Hair by Jarvis
  • The Drama Llama by Rachel Morrisroe and Ella Okstad
  • The Eyebrows of Doom by Steve Smallman and Miguel Ordóñez
  • Wash Your Hands, Mr Panda by Steve Antony
  • We Sang Across the Sea by Benjamin Zephaniah and Onyinye Iwu

The Bishop’s Stortford College Festival of Literature 2023 will take place from 30th January to 9th February for participating schools.
