1st XI Captain is Indoor National Champion

Upper Sixth student, Freddy C, captain of the College's 1st XI Boys' Hockey team has become an U18 Indoor National Champion. 

On Sunday 16th January, Freddy took part in the U18s National Indoor Finals with his junior club side, Old Loughtonians in Wolverhampton. 

In the first game up against Brooklands, Freddy scored two smartly executed short corners within the first 5 minutes of the game, giving his team a 2-0 lead. Although Brooklands came back strong in the second half to overcome the deficit, the team kept their spirits high going into their next match. 

Needing to win both of their remaining group games, the Old Loughtonians faced East Grinstead next and sailed into the next match with a comfortable 5-1 victory. 

Winchester was the final match of the group games and Freddy scored an amazing 4 goals in a whirlwind first half performance with his strike partner scoring another 3, resulting in a win for the team of 7-2. The team now faced Reption in the semifinal. 

A comprehensive and commanding team performance resulted in a 4-1 win to secure a place in the final against long time rivals, Surbiton. 

With Freddy and his strike partner each scoring a goal within the first half, the team were 2-0 up. Although Surbiton countered with a late goal with just 46 seconds left on the clock, the Old Loughtonians were able to run the time down and keep their lead, running out U18 National Indoor Champions. 

As well as winning the tournament, Freddy finished as the second top scorer of the competition, scoring a phenomenal 9 goals.
