Step 1 - Initial Enquiry and Visiting

You will, of course, want to visit Bishop’s Stortford College as you consider whether we are the right school for your child or children. Depending on your own preference and the time of year, you can arrange an individual appointment by contacting the Admissions Officer and/or attend one of our Open Events usually held in the Autumn term.

Step 2 - Application (deadline 25th November 2022 for 2023 entry)

Once you have visited the College and decided that you would like to apply for a place you will need to complete the Application Form. This can be accessed here

The Application Form needs to be submitted by the above deadline together with the £125 Application/Registration Fee. The fee may be paid by cheque or BACS (please contact the Fees team for details).

For details about the procedure and timing for applying for a Scholarship Award, please click here to access the relevant scholarship information leaflet.

The deadline to apply for a Financial Assistance Award, also known as a Bursary, is the same as for applying for a place. However, the two forms do not need to be submitted at the same time.

The College Application Form can be submitted in advance of the necessary financial information being collated in order to submit the financial assistance application.

Step 3 - Assessment

i) ENTRY TESTS - January prior to entry in English, mathematics and verbal reasoning at 10+ and 11+ and easily accessible online tests in numeracy, literacy and verbal reasoning at 7+.

Applicants are, of course, considered after January if places are available.

7+ Thursday 12th January and Saturday 14th January 2023

8+ Monday 16th January 2023

10+ Monday 16th January 2023

11+ Saturday 14th January 2023

ii) SCHOOL REPORT/REFERENCE from your son or daughter’s current school.

A note on assessment criteria

Academic level: we admit children with a fairly wide range of ability; however, we would expect children to be achieving at least in line with age-related expectations to be sure they would cope with the academic curriculum at the College.

Special aptitudes: sport, music and art are very strong at Bishop’s Stortford College. A special aptitude in any of these areas will be taken into consideration as there will be the opportunity to play a wider role in contributing to the community life of the school.

Step 4 - Offer of a place (by Friday 10th February 2023)

Places will normally be offered for Prep School entry by Friday 10th February 2023.

Step 5 - Acceptance of a Place

An Acceptance Form, which accompanies the offer letter, is then completed and returned to us, together with the Acceptance Fee by 3rd March 2023.
