Step 1 - Initial enquiry and visit
You will, of course, want to visit Bishop’s Stortford College as you consider whether we are the right school for your child or children. Depending on your own preference and the time of year, you can arrange an individual appointment by contacting the Admissions Officer and/or attend one of our Open Events usually held in September and April for entry to Pre-Prep.
Step 2 - Application
Once you have visited the College and decided that you would like to apply for a place, you will need to complete the Application Form.
The Application Form ideally needs to be submitted by the end of the September prior to entry.
Step 3 - Assessment
i) INFORMAL STAY AND PLAY ASSESSMENT MORNING - October prior to entry.
Applicants are, of course, considered after this stage if places are available.
All children applying to join the Pre-Prep are informally assessed by one of our Reception teachers. In small groups with children of a similar age, they are given a series of activities so we can assess their readiness to benefit from the type of structured day and education we offer.
If places become available in Pre-Prep Years 1 and 2, we invite those who have applied to come and spend a morning with the class and to undertake literacy and numeracy assessments. Social skills are also assessed in the group activities. These tests do not apply to prospective Reception pupils.
Step 4 - Offer of a place
Places will normally be offered for Pre-Prep entry by the end of the October prior to entry.
Step 5 - Acceptance of a place
An Acceptance Form, which accompanies the offer letter, is then completed and returned to us, together with the Acceptance Fee by early November.
