On 6th June, Miss Speight, teacher of English and Deputy Housemistress in Trotman House,  attended the Citizens in Policing Awards. She was nominated for her work in the community in relation to the recently established local Police Cadet Force, of which approximately 26 cadets are College pupils.

The category of Volunteer New Recruit of the Year consisted of four nominations, and although we were all behind Miss Speight, and the photo of her new dog Buzz, she lost out to Jacob Vickers, a young man working hard within his own cadet group. Miss Speight received her highly commended certificate and had a photograph with the Lord Lieutenant.

The Police Cadets of Bishop's Stortford is thriving, with College students attending weekly sessions on a Wednesday evening and learning first aid, definitions of the law and listening to a range of speakers including a forensic scientist. The cadet group is ably led by Upper 5th pupil Sally H, and many of our pupils make up the squads that train together. The importance of assisting through volunteer schemes such as this within our community is invaluable and the College is so pleased and proud that Miss Speight and so many of our pupils are helping to make a difference in the local area.
