Soulful Evening of Jazz, Blues and Fish'n Chips
One night every year, the Ferguson Lecture Theatre is transformed from a lecture theatre and exam hall into a jazz venue, for the Big Band Night with Singers. This year, on Friday 10th May, Senior School instrumentalists and singers took part in this wonderful concert that featured big band classic numbers such as Feeling Good, American Patrol and Watermelon Man, intimate songs for voice and piano like My one and only love and Let there be love, as well as big showstopper vocal numbers such as Beyond the sea and Ain’t that a kick in the head.
The Senior School Big band, conducted by Emma Fowler, was in top form as they accompanied several outstanding singers in solo and ensemble songs. During the intermission the members of the audience were entertained by ‘The Busking 5’ whilst enjoying their dinner. Toby Hunt was also a top contributor to the success of the evening thanks to his wonderful piano accompaniment, excellent vocal contributions and humorous and informative compering.
Well done to all the musicians for a very enjoyable evening with many impressive performances.
