Burns Night for Inspire Malawi
On Friday night the Inspire Malawi Team hosted a Burns’ Night in order to raise funds, with over 120 people in attendance. The night was held in aid of Inspire Malawi, which helps to redecorate and renovate schools. A group of 11 Sixth Formers will be travelling to Malawi this Easter to help the charity with its work. The menu included salmon, the traditional Haggis neeps and tatties, pie and a Scottish dessert; cranachan. Alistair Reid kindly agreed to give the Toast to the Haggis.
After the meal, we were treated to live Scottish music, played by a ceilidh band. We were all taught how to dance traditional dances such as ‘Strip the Willow’ and ‘Dashing White Sergeant’.
We held a raffle, with some fantastic prizes including a Parliamentary Hamper, Cote Restaurant voucher and Champagne on offer. Popular party game ‘heads and tails’, as well as the ‘Whisky game’ (participants attempted to skim a £1 coin as close to a whiskey bottle as they could in order to win the bottle) were also organised.
The evening was a fantastic event for all involved, and raised (roughly) £2500!
