College Swimmer Awarded Wilkinson Sword
At the recent Hertfordshire Swimming Association Annual Awards, College student Elinah Philip was the very proud recipient of the prestigious Wilkinson Sword in recognition of her achievements in the sport of Swimming.
This is the first time in 25 years that the sword has been awarded to a Bishop’s Stortford Swimming Club member, and indeed the first time it has been awarded since 2013. Symbolising the ultimate achievement in sport, the sword is not presented every year and is usually presented to Olympians and Commonwealth Games competitors. Elinah was awarded the Sword jointly with another swimmer from Hatfield SC, both of whom had swum in the 2016 Olympics in Rio.
While the original Wilkinson Sword is permanently housed in a presentation case, with a plaque bearing the names of all the sword recipients, Elinah was given a small replica of the sword to take home.
Mrs Deborah Huggett, Head of Swimming, said, “We are all so proud of Elinah and everything she has achieved. She is a tremendous ambassador for both her sport and her school.”
