Over the Summer Term, the College established a strong link with the local Police force and approximately 24 College pupils will be taking part in the new Police Cadet Programme launching in Bishop’s Stortford this September. This follows the success of the Hertford and Ware cadets and will be headed up by DCI Rob Scott, who will be working closely with Miss Speight in order to oversee the College pupils involved.
The group will meet every Wednesday and will have a strong community focus, with pupils working with the elderly residents of the town and helping at local community events. The group will also be co-ordinating a social action project in the town which will seek to develop even stronger relationships in and around the community. Alongside this, the Cadet sessions can count towards Duke of Edinburgh’s Awards and teach a range of skill sets that are in line with the scheme; something that the College has always encouraged and has a very strong track record in.
Miss Becky Speight, who is leading the project from the College side said, “I am so proud that so many of our pupils have shown an interest in this and will be donning their uniforms in September and representing young people in our area. The popularity of the Cadets has shown that young people in our community clearly feel they have a lot to offer and I am excited to see how this initial positivity is built upon.”
