Last Stop on Book Club Journey

U3 farewell party with books outside

25 Upper Third pupils attended a special book club celebration on Tuesday 3rd July as each of these pupils had read and attended over 60% of the book clubs since joining the school. In fact several had a 100% record and Oscar S and George S had read and attended all 43 Book Clubs since starting in Shell- what a tremendous achievement!

The fun started with a quiz to test their memory of some of these titles, and then after a lunch of hot dogs, the wonderful cake made by Mrs Kain was shared by them all. Each pupil was asked to nominate their favourite book club title, and there was quite a spread, from the most recent book I have no secrets to Varjak Paw and Tom Gates is Absolutely Fantastic which were from their days in Shell. Marcus Alexander seemed to be the most popular author who had visited, largely because “he was so cool”, but other favourites included Penny Joelson, who “understood everything we were saying”, Frank Cottrell Boyce and Liz Pichon.

Thank you to all the staff who have supported and encouraged pupils to read the Book Club books, and especially to Mrs Lamyman whose support in all matters is invaluable.
