Lower & Upper Thirds' Wonderful Sounds of Music
Amongst all the end of year exams, Upper and Lower 3rd musicians found an opportunity to showcase their talents in the annual combined concert for the top two years in the Prep School. It was a lovely evening of music with many great vocal and instrumental performances.
The concert started with the Lower and Upper Third choir, who sang two contemporary songs ‘Somewhere only We Know’ by the group Keane and ‘As long as I have Music’ by Don Besig. The choir was in good form and did a great job performing those two songs. That was not the only example of vocal music during the evening, as Emily P, Imogen C-S, Rebecca T and Sophie A R all sung solo songs as well.
The evening also showcased a varied range of instrumental items with many contrasting performances, such as Lewis W playing ‘Wake up’ by Rage Against the Machine on the electric bass and the piano trio performing a piece for six hands entitled ‘Strength of Feeling’. The piano featured heavily in the concert, with notable performances by Peggy S, Roman A, Markus W and Edward C, who also delighted us with a lovely ‘Humoresque’ for Bassoon.
The string family of instruments were well represented, with Toby P on violin and Thomas W on cello. A special mention must be made to Bente v d H who performed magnificently on the harp, playing a very challenging piece, with complex figurations and a delightful melodic outline, titled ‘Au bord du Ruisseau’.
Many congratulations to all the players involved and best of luck in the forthcoming House Music Competition!
