Superb Day of Cricket for 1st XI v MCC
MCC 213 for 2
BSC 153 for 2 (Adam Bassingthwaighte 68 not out, Joe Hawkins 68)
Unfortunately the weather had the final say in this prestigious fixture between our 1st XI and Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) on Tuesday 24th April. The game was set for a very exciting finish with the 1st XI needing just 61 runs in 15 overs with 8 wickets in hand, to secure what would have been a wonderful victory. Sadly it was at this stage the rain came and put an end to the dream of beating the MCC for the second year running.
When the MCC batted first, Jamie B and Josh P were our wicket takers while James W bowled very economically with figures of 6 overs for only 15 runs.
Our run chase was dominated by two hugely impressive innings: Joe H took the attack to the MCC bowlers and played many excellent shots to put the pressure on the opposition, scoring a powerful 68 and put on a 100 run partnership with captain for the day Adam B. Adam played with great maturity and, with many superb shots, made a very well-crafted 68 not out; had the rain not intervened he looked set to lead his side to a well-earned win.
All the boys should be very proud of their performance throughout the day and received high praise from the MCC captain on their ability and the spirit in which they played the game. At the end of the match Adam was awarded the “Spirit of Cricket” cap by the MCC captain for his excellent innings and spirit in which he played the game. Well done to all involved.
