Festival of Literature Gets Off to a Magical Start!
The first event of this year’s Festival of Literature took place with Prep School pupils’ celebration of Harry Potter Night on Thursday 1st February. The theme this year was Fantastic Beasts, so as well as the usual Hogwarts pupils, Muggles and Professors we also saw some Nifflers, and dragons! The best costume awards were won by Eleanor W, as a Green Welsh Dragon; Jemima B as Queenie and Zinnia-Claire B as a Niffler.
Mr Wroblewski was a fantastic Master of Ceremonies, ably assisted by a number of Sixth Form students. The Harry Potter guests were put into Hogwarts Houses by the Sorting Hat, and then took part in various games and activities in a magically transformed Hogwarts Hall. Activities included a trip to Hagrid’s Hut, where a Cornish speaking Hagrid, (Mr Talbot-Rice) instructed pupils in the care of magical creatures.
Mrs Ward-Booth enchanted the pupils with a Magical Potions lesson and after creating their own fantastic beast in their Hogwarts Houses, they next moved on to a game of Quidditch. All of the competition points were added up and this year, Hufflepuffs were declared the winners.
It was a wonderful evening with which to launch this year’s Festival of Literature, and I would like to thank the many staff and parents who helped, not least of these Mrs Hansen–Hoare for baking 100 delicious Harry Potter cakes!
