College Quiz Team Through to Regional Semi-Finals
Richard Hale School 300
The Bishop’s Stortford College Schools’ Challenge team, comprising Dougal P (captain), Matthew B, Luke F and Elizabeth G, travelled to Richard Hale school in Hertford to compete in an East Anglian region’s quarter-final match of this year’s competition on the afternoon of 28th November.
The College made a very strong start by being first to the buzzer for the first three starter questions and after ten minutes they had already opened up a 70 point lead over their hosts (Richard Hale 110, BSC 180). It was BSC too, who scored the first maximum of fifty points (by answering the starter question and all three follow ups correctly) and this helped them gradually to establish a lead of over 100. Richard Hale responded well, earning themselves a maximum too. After twenty minutes the lead had been cut significantly (Richard Hale 190, BSC 240). The whole match could have swung either way, with one single maximum round for either side, but this did not happen and the College side never relinquished the lead they had held throughout the competition.
All four BSC players performed well, combining their varied subject strengths effectively. They now progress to the East Anglian Region semi-finals which will take place in the new year.
