Gold Expedition

Following a few challenging but very enjoyable days of hiking and camping in the Peak District at the start of July, 24 Upper Sixth students completed their Duke of Edinburgh's  Gold expedition in of Hope on Tuesday 4th July.

The weather was much kinder to the students, compared with the rainy conditions they endured during their practice expedition.  Miss Chaplin and Mrs Lynch were delighted to see how much their navigational, free nav and campcraft skills had improved since their early Bronze level days! Well done to all the students, who all passed the assessment.

Silver Expedition

Thirty one Upper Fifth pupils left behind the gentle countryside of Hertfordshire and Essex for the hilly contours of the White Peak area of Derbyshire on Friday 30th June. All five groups made good progress and coped well with the rapidly changing weather conditions as they navigated their way from Bradwell to Bakewell. Our computer  tracking system worked really well and staff were able to keep tabs on the groups and make sure they were met with water at appropriate times and places; it also meant that our staff could see exactly where the groups walked and when they deviated from their route.

The groups all finished in high spirits, ready to tackle their assessment in Yorkshire in August. Well done everyone!
