Prep School Athletes Impress at Regionals
Eleven Upper Shell athletes recently competed in the East Area Championships in Cambridge, the first meet for most of them. Stand out performances of the day were from Elijah U, who won his 600m heat, running in a time of 1 minute and 58 seconds. Unfortunately, the second heat was slightly faster, which placed him in 4th overall. Zoe B came 3rd in her 100m heat, which meant she qualified for the final. The final was incredibly tough and she came 6th overall, a great achievement. Finally, the boys' relay team, made up of Oliver M, Elijah U, Finnlay P and Freddy F, came 2nd in their heat, which saw them fly through to the final. The final was the last event of the day and was very exciting, the boys running a brilliant race, coming 4th overall.
The equivalent championships for Form Two to Upper Thirds were held at Bedford, with the chance to compete in the national finals. On this day, Eloise D showed off her speed on the track. She qualified for the 100m and 200m finals as well as running with three other pupils in the 4 x 100 relay. In the 100m final she had to run against some very fast athletes and came 5th overall. Unfortunately, due to injury, she had to pull out of the 200m final.
We had one pupil qualify for the National Finals at this event. Harry M, who won the National Finals last year, ran a new PB in the 800m, running in a time of 2 minutes and 19.6 seconds. Although he came 2nd overall he still qualified for the Nationals, which are due to take place in Birmingham on Tuesday 4th July. We wish him the best of luck and hope he can sustain his title.
