Elite Cricket Coaching by Former International
Charlotte Edwards, former Captain of women's England Cricket and, according to the Guardian Newspaper, "arguably the most significant women’s cricketer to have played the sport", came to the College on Friday afternoon for an elite coaching session with the 1st XI team, U11 A and B Rounders girls, and Upper Shell boys and girls. This was a fantastic opportunity for the pupils, enjoyed in equal measure by the different teams:
The 1st XI squad had a wonderful session with Charlotte Edwards on Friday afternoon, the fielding session was expertly run with a high level of competition and great enthusiasm from Charlotte and all the boys. Her rapport with the boys was superb and the energy she put into the training session translated directly to the high work rate the 1st team produced. It could not have been a more positive experience for those involved and will hopefully make a big difference in the coming weeks. We can only hope she will be back again soon for another inspirational session.
With U11 girls cricket fixtures on the horizon, the coaching session on Friday with Charlotte Edwards was a great opportunity to introduce the girls to the sport. Within 10 minutes, Charlotte had them overarm bowling, with some showing great potential. Charlotte finished the session with a fun, non-stop Kwik Cricket game which the girls loved and they walked away full of enthusiasm and looking forward to the fixtures against Felsted this week.
Charlotte Edwards took after school sports club for Upper Shell on Friday evening. She spent half of the session with the boys, coaching them on batting techniques in the nets and on how to run well between the wickets. The girls then enjoyed an exciting cricket session where she played a game focussing on their batting and speed of fielding. All the pupils thoroughly enjoyed meeting her and benefited from her coaching advice.
