Genetic Experiments in Sixth Form Biology
Upper Sixth Biology students were experimenting with pGLO transformation on Monday as part of their learning about genetic transformation with the aid of a plasmid. Simply put, they were trying to grow bacteria and transform them by adding the gene code for Green Flourescent Protein or GFP (the same substance that makes some jellyfish luminesce). The experiments showed how bacteria can become resistant to an antibiotic alongside gaining the ability to make the green fluorescent protein through the transmission of plasmids.
