Grimwade Donates to Local Night Shelter
With the current absence of pupils from the school, the College decided to bring forward the second phase of refurbishment to the boarding facilities in Grimwade House.
The first stage was to remove old furnishings and the College was delighted to gift the furniture to Recover, a local charity based in Welwyn Garden City.
Lorraine Short, Grimwade House Tutor, was determined to not let this still serviceable furniture go to waste and reached out to Recover, a charity which up-cycles furniture to either sell on or donate to homeless shelters. All members of the charity are on a journey to recovery, whether from addiction or mental-health illness. By helping to up-cycle donated furniture, members are given the opportunity to discover new skills and a workplace structure, develop self-esteem and confidence and participate in fulfilling creative work.
On the afternoon of Friday 12th June, the furniture, including 18 wipe-clean mattresses, was collected by the Recover team and later donated to the Resolve Charity Night Shelter. The College is thrilled that the old furnishings have been put to good use and will help those in need, especially in the current climate, instead of being thrown away.
