Senior Debating Reaches Thrilling Finale
Benson and Sutton Houses went head to head in the Senior Debating Final on Monday 9th December, arguing the motion, Can Science and Religion Really Co-Exist?, with the Sutton House team of Freddie C and Louis H arguing against and Clara H and Penny Z of Benson House arguing for the motion. Both sides presented their carefully researched and excellent arguements to a packed audience, with the judges commenting that Louis and Freddie argued with “force and passion”, whilst Penny and Clara had a “warmer”, yet determined, approach to their arguments. The questions from the floor were challenging and allowed excellent responses on both sides.
In the end the judges were unanimous in their decision that Benson had the upper hand and therefore won the competition. This is a remarkable achievement for Penny and Clara, who also won the Junior Debating competition in 2017, while Sutton House have enjoyed an excellent year of debating, winning the Junior Final in March.
Congratulations to all four students on an impressive debate and thanks to Mr Birchall for continuing to host and arrange this challenging competition.
